Jason Kozica

Psychologist

Jason is a registered psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency(AHPRA) and is currently working at a community health service and in private practice. Jason completed his masters in psychology at the University of Auckland, investigating the effects of self-monitoring, goal setting and a group contingency for increasing physical activity among adults with an intellectual disability and the impact physical activity has on reducing anxiety.

Jason has training in process-based therapies including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness. He has worked in community mental health settings with people of all ages and was a volunteer telephone counsellor at Lifeline. His approach is person-centred and focuses on connecting with his clients in a practical and non-judgemental way. He is particularly interested in working with individuals that identify a neurodivergent and is dedicated to neuroaffirmative practices. He also enjoys assessing and treating people with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and psychosis.

Jason is passionate about the relationship between physical activity and mental health and often draws upon sport psychology concepts in his work with clients to help increase their motivation. He enjoys helping athletes, students and professionals experiencing performance anxiety. Jason also enjoys outdoor adventures and continues to compete in national-level athletics and is an active member of the ACT Sport and Exercise special interest group.

Jason loves animals and has two certified therapy dogs Ziggy Stardust and Carlos Alcaraz. Ziggy and Carlos keep clients calm and help them engage in the present moment. The therapy dogs often accompany clients on a “walk and talk” session.
